A Few Thoughts on Grief and the Holidays

Sheri Briggs

As many of you know, my son went to heaven June 3, 2015. He was 26 years old.
Thanksgiving was always a very special time for Nate and me.
I have been thinking about what Thanksgiving was like in 2015, and where I am today on my grief journey so I thought I would share.
For many people, the holidays bring up a lot of pain, whether it be due to a recent loss or the loss of a loved one years ago.
I am a person who has experienced the nearness of God in the darkest hours of my soul.... but not right away. I don't doubt for a second that He was near to me- even pressing into my broken heart....but it took me a while to realize that because the pain  was too great.
In this podcast I share from my personal experience what is helpful and what is not, when a friend or family member is suffering.
Grieving is a healthy choice through the many difficult transitions in life. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn!"  There is a blessing promised to us, in our mourning.
I have also learned on my journey, that Jesus is the perfect example of what it means to be present for those who are grieving.

He  is near to the broken hearted and saves those crushed in spirit.
Psalms 34:18.
